RUTLAND, Vt. -- The University of New England overcame a two-goal deficit and skated to a 3-3 overtime draw with Castleton University in New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) women's action Friday afternoon (Nov. 17) at Spartan Arena.
Scoring during the initial period (2-1 Castleton) came in a span of 87 seconds near the 1st intermission. The Spartans got on the board with Hannah Rose and Ali Stevens, before
Jessie Scott answered back for the Nor'easters with 2:23 to go in the frame.
That spread held until the first minute of the 3rd session, when Scott took it away from a defender and scored again to level the match (2-2). And UNE grabbed the advantage with just over nine minutes remaining in regulation, as
Marykate Drinkwater redirected a shot from
Katie Babineau through the five-hole.
But Castleton and Lisa Kilroy capitalized on a power-play with 3:28 on the clock to tie it.
The Spartans had a 3-1 edge in shots during the extra period, however neither side could put another past the goalies.
Caty Flagg totaled 24 stops for UNE, while Rylie Willis made 26 saves in front of the Castleton cage.
The Nor'easters visit No.1 Norwich University on Saturday (1 p.m.).
