Hannah Buckley notched a pair of goals to lead the University of New England in a 4-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) field hockey victory over Western New England University on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 14) at the Big Blue Turf.
Winners of five straight, the Nor'easters (12-4, 8-1 CCC) are now 19-0 all-time against the Golden Bears (6-7, 4-5 CCC).
UNE held the visiting squad without a shot attempt or penalty corner in the opening half, and did not allow a shot-on-goal for the entire match (31-3 shots, 16-2 corners).
Buckley scored in the 6th and 57th minutes, first redirecting a drive by
Vonde Saunders, and then finishing a feed from
Julia Paini.
The hosts gained a 2-0 halftime cushion with a tally by
Kendra MacDonald in the 12th minute, after
Liz Clark knocked down a bouncing ball in front.
Brooke Lemerise netted a rebound in the 49th minute to make it 3-0.
Grace Trupe had a busy day for Western New England, totaling 17 saves.
Liz Sargent earned the shutout decision in goal for UNE, which visits Gordon College (1-7 CCC) on Tuesday (4 p.m.).
