BIDDEFORD, Maine -- In an exhibition game at the Harold Alfond Forum Saturday evening (Jan. 7), the University of New England men's ice hockey team defeated the United States National Under-18 Team by a score of 5-2.
The victory came just one night after the U.S. Team's 6-2 victory over the University of Maine (NCAA Division I), and marked the first time an NCAA III squad had beaten the U.S. since 10/25/14 (11 straight wins by combined score of 65-19).
Senior captain
Trevor Fleurent had a hand in all five of the Nor'easters' goals, scoring two and setting up three.
Ryan Bloom had a goal and two assists, while
Brady Fleurent scored one and set-up another.
Armand Uomoleale accounted for UNE's other goal.
Sean Dhooghe and Tommy Miller scored for the U.S. Under-18 Team.
The visitors led 2-1 after one period, as Dhooghe and Miller sandwiched goals around
Trevor Fleurent's first tally of the evening. Dhooghe scored an unassisted short-handed goal at 6:02 of the frame, rushing in alone and completing a nifty back-handed shot as he moved across the slot. Fleurent beat U.S. goaltender Adam Scheel five-hole from the high slot at 15:28 after receiving a pass from Bloom
