CHICOPEE, Mass. -- The University of New England women's swimming team won 10 of the first 11 races en route to a 142-88 triumph over Elms College on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 28) at Partyka Natatorium.
With the conclusion of the regular-season schedule, the Nor'easters wrap up 2016-17 with a 7-2 record.
Eleni Bautz,
Lindsey Thomsen, and
Taryn Leach each captured a pair of events for UNE, while
Emmie Travers, Maddie Mahar, and
McKenna Riley each added one. The visitors also claimed the 400-medley relay in 5:11.39, which Riley, Thomsen,
Kayla Burgess, and Bautz delivered.
Bautz touched first in the 200-freestyle (2:25.26) and 100-freestyle (1:04.72), Thomsen booked the top spot in the 50-backstroke (34.43) and 100-breaststroke (1:24.28), and Leach registered the wins in the 100-butterfly (1:15.83) and 100-backstroke (1:15.73).
Travers took the closest swim of the day, the 50-freestyle, as her time of 31.17 finished just 0.25 ahead of the Blazers' Aislinn Carrier.
The 50-breaststroke was nearly as tight, as Mahar (40.91) out-stretched teammates
Briana Goud (41.19) and
Emily Fellows (41.25) for the result.
Riley capped the winning performances with a 5:15.86 in the 400-freestyle.
UNE will now prepare for the New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championship, which will take place February 16-19.
