BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The fifth-ranked Norwich University women's ice hockey team scored five goals in the final two periods to pull away for a 6-1 New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) victory Saturday afternoon (Jan. 28) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
Winners of five of their last six, the Cadets improved to 14-3-1 overall and 10-1-0 in conference play. UNE dropped back to 7-10-2 overall, 4-6-1 in NEHC contests.
The Cadets had six different players get into the scoring column -- Liesel Baker, Jessica Piracini, Desirae Kuhlmann, Nicole Goebel, Kim Tiberi and Kelley Madden -- while
Abby Kinens tallied for the Nor'easters.
Baker's first collegiate goal was also the first of the game -- and lone marker of the opening period -- giving the visitors a 1-0 lead at the first intermission.
The Cadets would put the game in the second frame, getting goals from Piracini, Kuhlmann and Goebel in a span of 6:49.
Tiberi notched a power-play goal just 43 seconds into the third, followed by a strike from Madden less than two minutes later.
Kinens prevented the Nor'easters from being blanked, collecting a short pass from
Annie Mullen and poking the puck home to make the score 6-1

Laurie King played the first two periods in goal to register the win for Norwich. She made 20 saves to keep her record undefeated (12-0-1) before giving way to Celeste Robert in the third. Robert had five stops.
For UNE, starting goaltender
Sydney Helmbrecht totaled 36 saves in 54:01 of ice time, and
Caty Flagg came on to make three saves over the final 5:59.
The Nor'easters will return to action Friday with a 4 p.m. home game versus New England College.
