Brady Fleurent scored all three University of New England goals as the Nor'easters tied Wentworth Institute of Technology 3-3 in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey game Thursday night (Jan. 19) at Allied Veterans Memorial Rink.
The nation's leader in points per game, Fleurent scored twice in the second period and once in the third for UNE (7-6-2, 4-4-2 CCC), giving him 32 points in 15 games (2.13/game). It also set UNE's single-season mark for points, eclipsing the mark both he and his brother, Trevor, established last season.
Ryan Bloom assisted on each of the three UNE goals, and
Trevor Fleurent recorded a pair of helpers.
Sam Levin and Kyle LeBrun notched second-period goals for the Leopards (4-10-2, 2-6-1), and Ben Mello tallied the game-tying marker in the final frame.
After a scoreless first period, both offenses got cranked up in the middle frame.
Brady Fleurent scored his first of the evening at the 5:50 mark, but Wentworth responded with back-to-back goals from Levin and LeBrun over the ensuing 2:33.
Brady Fleurent would score a power-play goal at 9:08 of the period to tie the game, 2-2.
Brady Fleurent completed the hat-trick just 25 seconds in the third stanza before Mello notched the final score of the evening eight minutes later to level the margin.
Tate Sproxton had 33 saves for the Nor'easters, while Kenny Graham totaled 38 for Wentworth.
UNE returns to action Saturday with a road battle versus No. 12 Endicott College at Raymond Bourque Arena (2:50 p.m.).
