GORHAM, Maine --Â The University of New England men's golf squad finished 2nd out of four team on Friday (Sep. 30) at the University of Southern Maine Cup, a modified-format event played at Gorham Country Club.
The host Huskies went low for a total of 204, 10 strokes better than the Nor'easters (214). Saint Joseph's College (Maine) ended at 219, and the University of Maine-Farmington at 224.
The annual event provides a break from the traditional style of collegiate golf, pairing teammates for an 18-hole round that consists of three sections -- six holes in the format of best ball, six holes of scramble, and six holes of alternate shot.
Sam Kinasewich and
Ryan Mahoney dialed in for a 2-under-par 69 to pace UNE.
Michael Rich and
Jackson Tucker joined forces to shoot 71, while
Seth Semmelrock and
Brendan Foley added a 74.
The USM duo of Joe Francoeur and Grayson Waterman posted the round of the day, with a 66.
Big Blue will now prepare for the one-day qualifying round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship on Tuesday (9 a.m.), which will be contested at South Shore Country Club in Massachusetts.
