WENHAM, Mass. -- With four runners in Top 10, the University of New England men's cross country team breezed to the team title at the 2016 Pop Crowell Invitational, held on the campus of Gordon College on Saturday (Sept. 24).
UNE's team total of 36 put the Nor'easters well out in front of the rest of the field. Massachusetts Maritime Academy (76) finished in second place and the host Fighting Scots (77) were third.
Paul Mangiafico (27:22) placed third overall to lead all UNE competitors.
Matthew Toussaint and
Ben Wright each posted a time of 28:00 to finish sixth and seventh, respectively, and
Jon Zalman (28:08) ran his best race of the season to grab the ninth spot.
Caleb Pulliam (11th; 28:24) was just one spot outside of the Top 10.
Damon Kilgore of Gordon breezed by the rest of the competitors. He won the race by nearly three minutes, posting a time of 24:39 over the 4.97 mile course.
The Nor'easters won for the second time in four starts this season. They have a week off before competing Oct. 8 Â at the James Earley Invitational hosted by Westfield State University.
