CAMBRIDGE, Mass. --
Kersey Boulay tallied a goal in each half to guide the University of New England to a 2-0 field hockey victory over Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Saturday afternoon (Sep. 10) at Jack Barry Field.
It was UNE's first road win over the Engineers in three tries. The Nor'easters improve to 3-1 with the result, while MIT falls back to the same record.
Big Blue was out-shot, 9-5, in the opening period, but moved ahead as Boulay pocketed a rebound in the 18th minute.
MIT narrowly missed its best scoring chance less than 90 seconds later, as a shot off the stick of Emily Penn hit the crossbar.
Just 2:10 in the 2nd half, the visitors were awarded a penalty stroke, and Boulay stepped up to slot it into the left side. In 28 career games, six of Boulay's nine goals have come from the stroke dot.
Holly Smith came up with several keys stops down the stretch to preserve the shutout, and finished with seven saves. Her counterpart for the hosts, Cailey Talbot, turned away six shots.
UNE returns home to face Colby College on Monday (7 p.m.).
