BEVERLY, Mass. -- Jackie Healy scored five times, and Endicott College led wire-to-wire in a 14-10 victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship semifinal Wednesday afternoon (May 4) at Hempstead Stadium.
The second-seeded Gulls (8-9) will be seeking their 10th conference title in the last 11 seasons when they travel to top-seeded Roger Williams University on Saturday. The Hawks advance to their first title game with a 12-11 overtime victory over Western New England University in Wednesday's other semifinal.
Emily Whitney and Jackie Neilsen chipped in three goals and two assists apiece to the Gulls' attack. Erin McCarthy contributed a game-high three assists.
Korinne Bohunsky and
Katie Cawley each tallied three goals to pace UNE (11-7).
Jocelyn Davee supported with a pair of markers.
Healy and Whitney gave the Gulls a 2-0 lead less than five minutes into the contest, and the hosts would never trail the rest of the way. After UNE got to within a goal (3-2) on a conversion by Cawley, Endicott scored three of the next four goals to double-up the Nor'easters (6-3). The Gulls would lead 7-4 at the break.
Endicott scored five of the first six goals of the final frame to establish a 12-5 advantage before UNE chipped away in the closing minutes to get as close as the final margin of four (14-10).
Winning goalkeeper Maura Grady had nine stops for the Gulls, who received six draw controls from Olivia Larson.
Bohunsky played a brilliant all-around match for UNE, contributing seven draw controls, three ground balls and three caused turnovers.
Courtney Kendall registered 11 saves between the pipes.
The Nor'easters await for on a bid to the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III New England Championship, which gets underway next Wednesday (May 11). Pairings are expected to be released Monday.
