BOSTON -- The University of New England raced out to a 10-1 lead after just 13 minutes and cruised to a 19-8 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in a Commonwealth Coast Conference women's lacrosse match Tuesday afternoon (April 12) at Sweeney Field.
The Nor'easters (8-4, 4-1 CCC) remained red-hot, winning their third consecutive match and sixth in their last seven tries. Wentworth dipped to 2-10 overall and is winless in four conference games.
Korinne Bohunsky was dominant for UNE, piling up game highs of five goals and 11 draw controls. All five of her markers came in the initial 12:54 of the contest.
Jolena Lampron and
Nicole Carvalho each scored three times, while
Natasha Nary and
Jocelyn Davee notched two goals apiece. Lampron also contributed seven ground balls and five caused turnovers.Â
Liz Glavin came off the bench to score a team-high three goals for Wentworth, which received a pair of scores from Brooke Paradis.
Goalkeeper
Courtney Kendall played the opening 17:47 to earn the victory before giving way to
Maritza Nary, who posted five saves the rest of the way.
UNE held an advantage in shots (38-17), ground balls (29-21) and draw controls (18-10).
Hayley Patton made 17 stops and Liz Gunning had one for Wentworth.
The Nor'easters will host defending CCC champion Western New England University on Saturday. Game time at the Big Blue Turf is slated for 1 p.m.
