Davee powers Nor'easters past Huskies, 14-8

GORHAM, Maine -- Junior captain Jocelyn Davee scored a career-high five goals as the University of New England defeated the University of Southern Maine, 14-8, in non-conference women's lacrosse action Saturday (March 26) at Hannaford Field.

Korinne Bohunsky contibuted four goals to the win for UNE (4-3) and Katie Cawley added one.

For Southern Maine, Sam Campobasso, Sarah Pelligrinelli and Lauren Lessard accounted for seven of the Huskies' eight goals.

Leading by one (7-6) at halftime, the Nor'easters scored five unanswered goals in the opening 21 minutes of the second half to increase their lead to 12-6.  Bohunsky scored two goals 45 seconds apart in the opening two minutes to provide the Nor'easters with a spark coming out of the halftime break.

Nicole Carvalho, Cawley, and Olivia Carpenter added goals over the next 16 minutes to give the Nor'easters their biggest lead of the game.
           
USM (1-3) got goals from Lessard and Heather Everett to get back within four (12-8) with 3:48 to play, but UNE's Paige St. George broke the momentum with an unassisted marker at 2:15 to play.  Davee would score the final goal with two seconds to play.

UNE's goaltending tandem of Courtney Kendall and Lauryn Huck split the game, combining to make 11 saves.  USM's Caley Presby stopped 12 shots.

Aside from her game-high total of five goals, Davee played a spectacular all-round match, filling the stat sheet with six ground balls, five caused turnovers and three draw controls. 

The Nor'easters get Commonwealth Coast Conference play underway Wednesday (March 30) when they host Curry College at 4 p.m.
