Box Score

CASTLETON, Vt. -- Carly Sheehan converted a free-position goal with 2:23 elapsed in overtime to punctuate a furious University of New England comeback and give the Nor'easters a 12-11 victory over Castleton University in a non-conference women's lacrosse match Wednesday afternoon (March 16) at Spartan Stadium.

UNE, which trailed 10-5 midway through the second half, halted a three-game losing skid while evening its record at 3-3. The Spartans are 1-3 on the season.

Jocelyn Davee scored a game-best four goals for UNE, including three during a span of 7:35 to help fuel the Nor'easters' comeback. Nicole Carvalho notched her first three goals of the campaign, while Brooke Kelleher and Korinne Bohunsky had two apiece. Kelleher handed out four assists to push her team-best total to nine.

Castleton received three goals from Maria Ploof and Brandi Whittemore and six assists from Grace Johnson.

Leading by a goal at intermission (6-5), the Spartans scored four consecutive goals -- a pair by Ploof -- to push their lead to 10-5 with 14:09 on the clock.

Carvalho found the back of the net at the 11:39 mark to start the Nor'easters' six-goal barrage. Davee had three tallies during the spurt, including the go-ahead goal with 2:56 on the clock.

UNE's lead would be short-lived, however, as Whittemore knotted the match at 11 with 1:22 remaining.

The Nor'easters came up empty on a pair of free-position attempts in overtime before Sheehan converted on UNE's third try.

Davee and Bohunsky combined for nine draw controls, and Jolena Lampron scooped up five ground balls for the Nor'easters. Goalkeeper Courtney Kendall turned aside 12 shots to earn the victory.

Castleton's Emilee Maher was credited with six ground balls to lead all players, and Meghan Els registered a career-high 22 saves between the pipes.

UNE has nearly a week-and-a-half off before playing a road match at the University of Southern Maine March 26 (11 a.m.).
