Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The Saint Anselm College Hawks scored three times in the final period to break open a one-goal game and take a 4-0 victory over the University of New England in New England Hockey Conference women's action Saturday afternoon (Feb. 6) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Hawks halted a two-game losing skid to improve to 17-4-0 overall, 11-2-0 in NEHC games. UNE dipped to 11-7-2 (6-6-1 NEHC) with its second setback in less than 24 hours.

After a scoreless opening period, Saint Anselm broke into the scoring column 3:19 into the second when Jackie Guy stuffed home a rebound of her own shot that was initially saved by UNE goaltender Samantha Scobee.

Meaghan Spurling and Alex Starzyk each tallied in the opening five minutes of the third period to give the Hawks some breathing room. Spurling converted from the slot while falling to the ice after receiving a pass from Starzyk at 2:01, and then Starzyk stuffed home the puck from the top of the crease with her team on the power play. That goal, assisted by Alex Kazmer and Sarah Geisinger came at the 4:26 mark.

Starzyk would add to the Hawks' lead with 1:11 remaining when she converted a rebound.

Saint Anselm dominated the stat line, building up significant advantages in shots on goal (40-9) and face-off wins (44-19). Goaltender Hannah Synnott needed just nine saves to register the shutout.

Scobee totaled 36 stops for the Nor'easters, who head to Vermont next Friday and Saturday to face Castleton University and Norwich University.
