BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Emily Corrales scored a pair of goals to power fourth-seeded University of New England to a 3-0 win over fifth-seeded Salve Regina University in a New England Hockey Conference Championship women's semifinal Saturday afternoon (Feb. 27) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The win propels the Nor'easters (15-8-2) into the semifinal round for the first time in the history of the four-year program. UNE will travel to Northfield, Vt. to face top-seeded Norwich University next Friday (March 4) at a time to be determined. The Seahawks conclude their season with a mark of 10-13-3.

After a scoreless first period, Corrales would give the Nor'easters all the offense they would need, tallying a power-play goal on a wrist shot from the high slot at 8:07 of the second. Kierra Wright and Annie Mullen had assists.

UNE doubled its lead at 5:41 of the third when Mullen scored from a difficult angle. Below the goal line to the right of the cage, Mullen fed the puck towards the crease and it deflected off Seahawk goaltender Jennifer O'Connell into the cage.

Corrales notched her second marker of the afternoon at the 11:18 mark, carrying the puck up the right side and potting a wrist shot from the right circle.

Sydney Helmbrecht had a strong afternoon in goal to support UNE's offense. Her best stop of the game came with just four seconds remaining in the opening frame when she made a spectacular glove save after Danielle Phalon had broken in behind the Nor'easters' defense.

She finished with 28 stops in 57:20 of playing time before giving way to Samantha Scobee, who recorded one save the rest of the way.

O'Connell totaled 34 saves for the Seahawks, who were outshot 37-29. She made good stop in the opening period to keep UNE off the scoreboard, stoning Gabby Crugnale on a point-blank shot with 12:00 elapsed.
