UNE takes 7th at the New England Championships

KINGSTON, R.I. -- The University of New England women's swimming team wrapped up the three-day New England Intercollegiate Swimming & Diving Association (NEISDA) Championships on Sunday evening (Feb. 14) with a 7th-place finish out of the 21 teams. The meet was held at the Tootell Aquatic Center on the campus of the University of Rhode Island.

Roger Williams University captured the team title with 1453 points, edging Keene State College with 1386. Simmons College (1093), Saint Michael's College (721.5), Gordon College (604), and Eastern Connecticut State University (597.5) were next in line before the Nor'easters at 537.

Lindsey Thomsen led the way for UNE with a trio of All-New England performances. She notched 3rd place in the 50-freestyle (25.19), the 4th spot in the 100-individual medley (1:03.04), and 8th in the 100-breaststroke (1:12.22).

Big Blue tallied four additional All-New England accolades to register seven in all. Thomsen paired with Eleni Bautz, Kayla Burgess, and Emily Chamberlain for 3rd in the 200-freestyle relay (1:43.12), Burgess claimed 8th in the 200-butterfly (2:27.37), Chamberlain took 8th in the 500-freestyle (5:32.02), and Rachael Romain was also 8th in the 400-individual medley (5:07.33).

Burgess, Chamberlain, and Nicole Robitaille each notched a pair of other finishes just outside the top eight ranks for All-New England status. Burgess was 9th in the 400-individual medley (5:01.92) and 10th in the 100-butterfly (1:02.93), Camberlain was 10th in the 1,650-freestyle (19:08.63) and 11th in the 1,000-freestyle (11:25.69), and Robitaille was 11th in the 200-butterfly (2:27.59) while taking 12th in the 400-individual medley (5:10.98). Romain had a similar result (10th) in the 200-individual medley (2:23.05), as did Bautz (12th) in the 50-freestyle (26.42).

The Nor'easters also had two other relays (200-medley and 400-medley) that swam for the event crown in the top heat and wound up 7th to touch the wall.
