Bison claim 3-1 CCC win over Nor'easters

HARRISVILLE, R.I. -- Nichols College scored a goal in each period en route to a 3-1 victory over the University of New England in a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) men's ice hockey game played Saturday afternoon (Dec. 10) at Levy Rink.

The win pushed the Bison (8-3-2, 6-1-1 CCC) atop the CCC standings with 14 points. The Nor'easters dropped back to the .500 mark at 5-5-1 (4-4-1 CCC).             

Matthew Menta gave Nichols a lead it would never relinquish early in the contest, scoring his third goal of the year at 3:53 of the first frame.

The Bison would double their lead late in the middle period while a skater short. Michael Parnell tallied what would be the eventual game-winner at the 18:21 mark.

Nichols made the score 3-0 on Sean Swansen's goal midway through the third period before Brady Fleurent prevented the Nor'easters from being blanked with a goal with just over a minute to play. Dylan Bengtson and Ryan Bloom assisted on the play.

Goaltender Colin Brennan picked up his seventh win of the season with 41 saves, while Tate Sproxton had 29 for UNE, which had a 42-32 advantage in shots.

The Nor'easters are off until after the holidays. They will host an exhibition game versus the United States U-18 National Team on Jan. 7 at the Harold Alfond Forum.
