BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Mount Holyoke College received a trio of event wins from both Emily Craig and Bri Groves to pace a 137-125 women's swimming victory over the University of New England on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 5) at the Campus Center Pool.
The Lyons (1-1) captured 10 individual races and both relays, while the Nor'easters (1-1) stayed close by virtue of their depth in each competition.
Craig topped the list in the 100-, 200-, and 500-yard freestyle swims, while Groves touched the wall first in the 100-butterfly, the 100-breaststroke, and the 100-medley. Annie Kuenning supported Mount Holyoke with a pair of winning performances in the 50- and 100-backstroke, and Katie Tyler collected first-place points in the 50-freestyle and 50-butterfly.
Lindsey Thomsen and
Emily Fellows recorded the event victories for UNE, coming in the 50-breaststroke and 1000-freestyle, respectively. Thomsen also had two second-place efforts behind Groves, and Fellows was nearly stroke-for-stroke in the 500 free.
One of the two runner-up showings for
Taryn Leach came during the tightest finish of the day (0.20), as Kuenning just edged her out in the 50 back.
Eleni Bautz and
Brie Wurst doubled-up on second-place swims for Big Blue, as well.
The Nor'easters are scheduled to head for Husson University next Saturday (12 p.m.).
