Lindsey Thomsen and
Taryn Leach each won two events to lead a balanced and deep performance by the University of New England in tri-meet victories over Husson University (187-74) and Saint Joseph's College of Maine (197-64) on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 12) at Webber Pool.
The Nor'easters (3-1) captured nine races, in all -- seven by individuals and two relays.
Thomsen improved her own pool record (1:05.18) in the 100-IM, clocking a 1:04.11 to edge Husson's Lara Sarett by 0.45 seconds. She also took the 50-freestyle (26.29).
Leach topped the 100-backstroke (1:07.99), and then touched the wall first in the 50-butterfly (31.50), which went as the closest event of the day. Leach was just 0.20 faster than Julia Rowlett of SJC, while
Nicole Robitaille (31.81) and
Kayla Burgess (31.92) weren't far behind.
Sarett was also a two-time winner for the Eagles, claiming the 200-breaststroke and the 200-freestyle. Her time of 2:08.68 in the free was 0.66 ahead of Thomsen.
Robitaille and Burgess added to the UNE win total in the 200-butterfly (2:33.45) and 400-IM (5:24.42), respectively.
McKenna Riley recorded the other first-place showing for the Nor'easters in the 100-freestyle (59.30).
Big Blue brought home both relays, as well, with Leach,
Briana Goud, Thomsen, and
Eleni Bautz in the 200-medley and Burgess,
Faith Belleavoine, Bautz, and Riley in the 200-freestyle.
UNE's
Cat Labriola was fractions (0.27) off the pace in the 200-backstroke, which was set by the Monks' Emily Roy.
The Nor'easters are scheduled to host Simmons College next Saturday (1 p.m.).
