Nor'easters survive conference qualifier to secure spot in CCC Championship

Results

HINGHAM, Mass. -- Three rounds in the upper 70's helped the University of New England men's golf squad clinch a place in the upcoming Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship, as the 18-hole qualifying tournament was played Tuesday (Oct. 4) at South Shore Country Club.

UNE posted a score of 325 to advance -- the fourth of four teams to move on from the seven competing institutions. After Western New England University (308), Endicott College (316), and Nichols College (319), the Nor'easters edged Wentworth Institute of Technology (326) for the final spot. The Leopards finished on the outside despite of the effort of Dan Howard, who carded the low individual number of the day (by 4) with a 1-under-par 71.

Sam Kinasewich and Brendan Foley turned in rounds of 78 to lead Big Blue in the windy and cold conditions, while Michael Rich added a 79. Jackson Tucker concluded the UNE account with a 90.

As the winner of the qualifier, Western New England will now host the 36-hole final on April 29-30 to determine the league's automatic bid into the NCAA Championship.

The Nor'easters will get back to action on Thursday at Augusta Country Club for the Mariner Invitational.
