Box Score

CANTON, N.Y. --  Noelle Niemiec had two goals and two assists to lead the SUNY Canton women's ice hockey team to a 5-1 win over the University of New England in a mutual season-opener Friday afternoon (Oct. 28) at the Roos House.

SUNY Canton built a three-goal advantage with a pair of first-period markers and one in the second. Tessa Dobson tallied at 2:41 of the first to open the scoring, and Niemiec followed with a power-play goal at 12:59 of the frame. Niemiec then set-up the Roos' third goal of the afternoon, which was scored by Jessica Pele at 7:35 of the second.

Vanessa VanBuskirk got the Nor'easters on the scoreboard midway through the second. VanBuskirk's goal was assisted by Mary Wirth and Kierra Wright.

The Roos would respond just 20 seconds later, however, on a goal by Tess Adams. Niemiec rounded out the scoring in the third period, notching her second power-play goal of the day.

Winning goaltender Brooke Susac had 28 saves, while Sydney Helmbrecht totaled 29 for the Nor'easters.

The same two teams will square off once again tomorrow in Canton. Game time is slated for 2 p.m.
