Nor'easters edge Regis, 142-138

WESTON, Mass. -- Lindsey Thomsen captured three event wins and Eleni Bautz added two more as the University of New England women's swimming team narrowly defeated Regis College (Mass.), 142-138, on Saturday (Oct. 15).

The Nor'easters (1-0) also claimed the 200-yard medley relay (2:01.61), as Thomsen and Bautz paired with Kayla Burgess and McKenna Riley for the victory.

Thomsen touched the wall first in the 50 breaststroke (33.03), the 100 breaststroke (1:15.10), and the 100 individual medley (1:05.67) to start off her season. Bautz bested the fields in the 50 freestyle (26.68) and the 100 freestyle (58.61).

Burgess (100 butterfly), Riley (200 freestyle), Emily Fellows (500 freestyle), Emily Chamberlain (1000 freestyle), and Taryn Leach (100 backstroke) each claimed a second-place finish on the day to support the team score.

Jessica Higgins and Gloria Sutton tallied three and two triumphs, respectively, for the Pride (0-1), who collected seven solo events and as well as a relay.

UNE is slated to participate in the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Invitational next Saturday (1 p.m.).
