SPRINGFIELD, Mass. -- The University of New England men's cross country team utilized its depth to finish second out of 21 entries at the Western New England University Invitational on Saturday (Oct. 15).
UNE's team total of 115 was better than all other teams with the exception of SUNY-Delhi, which posted an impressive number (34). Westfield State University was four points behind the Nor'easters to grab the third spot.
Paul Mangiafico placed fifth with a time of 26:57 to lead the Nor'easters.
Matthew Toussaint offered one of the strongest performances of his career, posting 27:33 to place 12th. UNE's next two runners were tightly bunched --
Ben Wright (24th) at 28:09 and
Jon Zalman (26th) at 28:18 -- and
Caleb Pulliam rounded out the Nor'easters' scoring five in 50th place with a time of 28:58.
Damon Kilgore of Gordon College won the event in a time of 25:36.
The Nor'easters have next weekend off and will be preparing for the Commonwealth Coast Conference Championship, which will be hosted by Western New England on Oct. 29.
