UNE remains hot with 2-0 shutout of Salve Regina

MIDDLETOWN, R.I. -- Abby Kinens broke a scoreless tie late in the second half, and goaltender Sydney Helmbrecht kept Salve Regina University off the scoreboard with 27 saves, as the Nor'easters topped the Seahawks 2-0 in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) game played Friday evening at St. George's School Ice Rink.

After winning six of its last eight starts, the Nor'easters now stand at 7-5-2 overall and 2-4-1 in conference games. The Seahawks slipped to 5-7-2, 3-3-1 in NEHC play.

Kinens notched the game's first goal at 18:24 of the middle period, converting a backhand rebound for her third goal of the season, and for what would prove to be the game-winner. Gabriella Moscato received credit for an assist on the play.

Kimberly Gosselin tacked on an unassisted empty-net goal in the final minute to provide the final margin of 2-0.

The game was tight the entire evening, with UNE holding a slim 31-27 edge in shots on goal. Both teams came up empty on the power play. The Nor'easters were 0-for-4, while Salve Regina was 0-for-2.

UNE heads to New York tomorrow for a 3 p.m. NEHC tilt with Manhattanville College.
