BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Lindsey Thomsen, Kayla Burgess, and Emily Chamberlain each claimed two events as the University of New England women's swimming team bested Gordon College, 146-112, on Tuesday evening (Jan. 12) at the Campus Center Pool.

The Nor'easters (4-2) have taken the last 10 meetings against the Fighting Scots (5-2), who fall for the first time in their last five head-to-head meets.

One of Chamberlain's results came in the closest individual race of the night, the 100 freestyle, when her time of 1:01.34 touched just 0.07 seconds ahead of teammate Eleni Bautz. Chamberlain also took the 500 freestyle (5:52.35).

Thomsen had a tight finish to win the 100 backstroke, as her 1:06.47 was 0.46 seconds ahead of the next competitor. Prior to that, Thomsen's 34.19 was tops in the 50 breaststroke. For Burgess, after taking the 100 butterfly in 1:03.50, things were a little closer in the 50 butterfly, where her 29.32 clocked 0.91 seconds faster than Gordon's Alexa Bragg.

For the visitors, Caris Lyons matched the meet-high of two victories (50 frestyle, 200 freestyle), including a narrow decision over Bautz (+0.38) in the 50 free (27.35).

Rachael Romain capped UNE's seven solo victories with a 1:17.55 in the 100 breaststroke. The Nor'easters opened the evening with a team decision in the 200 medley relay, 0.06 seconds (2:01.02) in front of the Fighting Scots.

Bragg (50 backstroke - 30.22), Emily David (100 individual medley - 1:06.20), and Nicole St. Martin (1000 freestyle - 11:40.70) recorded the other wins for Gordon, which posted a first-place result in the 200 freestyle relay at the end.

UNE heads to Saint Joseph's College of Maine next Monday (1 p.m.).
