UNE finishes in 4th at Maine Championship

POLAND, Maine -- The University of New England men's golf team shot 321 in Sunday's (Sep. 20) Round 2 of the Maine Championship at Fairlawn Golf & Country Club, ending up with a two-day total of 626 and a fourth-place showing in the 10-team field. At 607, Saint Joseph's College claimed the title by one stroke.

The Monks (300-307) edged Husson University (608), which fired the low total of the day at 302. Overnight leader the University of Southern Maine dropped to third (614) after its Sunday scores added up to 318. After the Nor'easters, Maine Maritime Academy and the University of Maine Farmington tied for fifth at 635.

Backing up his 4-under-par 68 from Saturday, Husson's Daulton Wickenden finished with 140 to clinch the individual competition by seven.

Paul Butkevich led UNE with a share of eighth place individually, after shooting a pair of 76's for 152. Mike Rich (164) chipped in on the Round 2 squad total with 80, while Sam Kinasewich (160) and Ryan Mahoney (161) came in with 82 and 83, respectively. Garrett Krisko had a two-day score of 157 (73-84).

The Nor'easters resume their schedule next weekend (Sep. 26-27) at the Husson Invitational.
