Box ScorePhoto GalleryGORHAM, Maine -- Jessica Boghosian scored with 10:11 gone in overtime to lift the University of Southern Maine past the University of New England, 2-1, in field hockey action Thursday afternoon (Sep. 17) at Hannaford Field.
Boghosian started the deciding play with the penalty corner insert to the near wing, moved in a few strides to get the pass back from Leanne Reichert, and drove a shot into the far side for the winner.
The Huskies (4-3) were out-shot by an 11-3 margin in the contest, while the disparity in corners was 13-3.
After six tries by the Nor'easters (4-2) went unsuccessful in the 1st half, USM got on the board with its first attempt in the 30th minute as Tayla Smedberg tipped home a hit off the stick of Michaela Demers.
UNE increased the pressure in the 2nd period and netted the equalizer in the 44th minute when
Olivia Madore sent a ball into the middle from outside the circle and
Vonde Saunders redirected it into the left side.
Amanda Kasbohm made her fifth and sixth stops to keep the match level down the stretch and force the extra session. Then, on one of UNE's most threatening moments in OT, Kasbohm slid out to knock the ball away on a break coming in from the wing.
Holly Smith did not record a save for Big Blue, which returns to Biddeford for a Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) date against Western New England University on Saturday (5 p.m.).
