Hannah Warren combined for 13 goals as the University of New England rolled to an 18-6 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's lacrosse victory over Curry College on Tuesday afternoon (Apr. 14) at Walter Katz Field.
Winning for the fourth time in five outings, the Nor'easters (4-2 CCC) level off at 7-7 overall. It is just the second game Big Blue has taken on the road against the Colonels (5-9, 1-5 CCC) in nine tries.
Schwaner paced UNE with four goals, an assist, and six draw controls, while Newsome and Warren evenly split six goals and two helpers. Smith contributed three markers and a team-high four ground balls, and
Kimberly Gosselin added a goal and two assists.
Johanna Currier and
Jessica Deedon ended with six and four caused turnovers, respectively.
Katie Cawley scored both of her tallies as the visitors got out to a 6-1 lead entering the latter stages of the 1st half. After the Colonels cut it to 7-4, UNE struck four times in 2:42 late to gain a seven-goal spread at the break.
Courtney Kendall had eight saves in her 30 minutes of work to keep the hosts in check.
The Nor'easters needed less than three minutes of the 2nd period to extend the advantage to double digits.
Lauryn Huck registered four stops and
Maddy Ouellette one during the frame between the UNE pipes.
For Curry, Malorie Knowlton had two goals. Alexis Cran notched 10 draws and six caused turnovers. Kelly Parker finished with a goal, two assists, and four ground balls. Christina Wallis posted 13 saves for the home side, which was out-shot by a 40-22 margin.
UNE closes out its home schedule on Saturday (4 p.m.) against Roger Williams University (5-1 CCC).
