Box ScoreBIDDEFORD, Maine -- Junior Lindsay Picard and senior Olivia Raisner combined for six goals in the opening 23:30 as No. 12 Bowdoin College built a double digit cushion on the way to a 19-5 women's lacrosse victory over the University of New England on Wednesday evening (Mar. 4) at the Big Blue Turf.
The Polar Bears (2-0) recorded the initial seven scores over a nine-minute span and never looked back. In addition to her three goals, Picard controlled six draws and four ground balls. After Raisner's three markers, senior Clare McLaughlin, juniors Emma Beecher and Megan O'Connor, sophomore Kelsey Gallagher, and first-year Leigh Fernandez each netted two goals.
For the Nor'easters (1-1), senior
Macki Hill scored a game-high four times and classmate
Rachel Schwaner added one. Seniors
Gina Newsome and
Nikki Smith had three and two assists, respectively, and Smith pulled in three draw controls.
Bowdoin senior goalkeeper Isabel Sippel made six saves for the winners, while on the other end, UNE junior starter
Lauryn Huck registered 17 saves in 43 minutes of action.
The visitors finished the contest with sizable advantages in shots (41-11), draw controls (18-8), and ground balls (28-15).
Both squads get back on the field at noon on Saturday. The Polar Bears head home to face No. 1 Amherst College, while the Nor'easters are slated to entertain Wellesley College.
