12 score as Big Blue blows by the Leopards, 22-5

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England received goals from a dozen different players on the way to a 22-5 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) women's lacrosse victory over Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday evening (Mar. 25) at the Big Blue Turf.

With the decision, the Nor'easters (3-5) move to 1-0 in the conference matches while the Leopards (2-2) fall back to 0-2 in CCC action.

Big Blue tallied the first six goals and led 10-1 after 21 minutes, before three unanswered by WIT cut the gap to six. UNE notched the next 12 to pull away until Wentworth concluded the scoring with less than 30 seconds left to play.

Rachel Schwaner led the attack for the Nor'easters with four goals, with Gina Newsome and Brooke Kelleher each registering three. Macki Hill, Nikki Smith, Kimberly Gosselin, and Paige St. George added two apiece. Newsome and Gosselin were both credited with three assists.

UNE, which logged a 39-13 advantage in shots, also got one goal, two assists, four draws, and three caused turnovers out of Hannah Warren. Jolena Lampron contributed five ground balls and forced three more turnovers.

Lauryn Huck, Maddy Ouellette, and Courtney Kendall combined for five stops defending the Big Blue cage.

For the Leopards, Molly Dufresne found the back of the net twice. Robyn Pacini made nine saves and picked up seven ground balls between the pipes.

The Nor'easters travel to Western New England University (1-0 CCC) on Saturday for a 1 p.m. date. The same afternoon (3:30 p.m.), Wentworth is slated to visit Curry College (0-1 CCC).
