Hart leads No. 13 Geneseo to victory over UNE

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Katey Hart notched six goals as No. 13 SUNY Geneseo defeated the University of New England women's lacrosse squad, 16-3, on Wednesday (Mar. 18) at the Wide World of Sports Complex.

The Knights (3-0) were up just 2-0 through 19 minutes, but Hart reached a hat trick at the 10:55 mark to really get the attack going. She had five markers at halftime as Geneseo established an 8-1 cushion.

UNE (2-5) netted the initial tally of the 2nd half when Gina Newsome setup Rachel Schwaner, but the Knights recorded the next four goals to push the lead into double digits at 12-2.

Erin Cregan, who combined with Hart for nine of the team's 13 draw controls, added three goals for Geneseo. Cregan also had team-highs of five ground balls and four caused turnovers. Laura Passamonte and Claudia Coleates split time in goal, registering three and four saves, respectively.

Newsome and Kimberly Gosselin connected with each for the other two scores for Big Blue. Schwaner picked up four draw controls and Johanna Currier shared the game-high in ground balls with five. Lauryn Huck and Courtney Kendall each logged eight saves in the Nor'easters' cage.

SUNY Geneseo ended with a 42-12 advantage in shots.

UNE returns home to begin Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) play next Wednesday (7 p.m.) against Wentworth Institute of Technology.
