Lakers cruise through 1st half to down UNE

KISSIMMEE, Fla. -- Erannan Shattuck and Briana Kimble combined for nine goals and six assists to lead the State University of New York at Oswego in a 19-9 women's lacrosse victory over the University of New England on Tuesday morning (Mar. 17) at the Wide World of Sports Complex.

The Lakers (3-3) had runs of five, four, and three goals (twice) during the opening frame to establish a 15-5 cushion at halftime.

The Nor'easters tallied back-to-back goals just past the midway point of the period to make it 5-3 before Oswego began pulling away.

Emily Lange and Erin Herr had three and two goals, respectively, to support the winning attack, while Esther Gabriel also scored twice and collected 10 draw controls. The Lakers finished with a 22-8 advantage in that category, and registered a 36-21 margin in shots.

For UNE, Gina Newsome scored three times and Jessica Deedon, Nikki Smith, and Brooke Kelleher each contributed a pair.

Angela Ponto made seven saves in 54 minutes of work for Oswego. On the other end of the field, Courtney Kendall posted five 1st-half stops and Lauryn Huck logged eight over the closing 30 minutes.

The Nor'easters stay in Florida to take on No. 13 SUNY Geneseo on Wednesday (11 a.m.).
