Box ScoreWATERVILLE, Maine -- Kendall Smith notched four goals during the initial 18 minutes to help lead No. 11 Colby College in a 16-4 victory over the University of New England on Tuesday afternoon (Mar. 10) at Bill Alfond Field.
The Mules (3-1) got a four-point effort from Kelsey Bowen (2 goals, 2 assists) in support, and received additional contributions from Sasha Fritts (2 goals, 1 assist), Dana Swaffield (2 goals, 1 assist), and Emilie Klein (1 goal, 2 assists). Abby Hooper also chipped in with a pair of goals for the hosts.
For the Nor'easters (1-3),
Hannah Warren scored twice with
Gina Newsome and
Olivia Madore netting one marker each. Madore also shared the game-high with four caused turnovers.
Colby was up 8-0 following Smith's final tally at the 12:29 mark of the 1st half, before Madore put UNE on the board. The difference was 12-1 at intermission, with the Mules holding a 27-3 advantage in shots.
The first two scores of the 2nd period went to Big Blue, but the visitors could not get any closer than nine the rest of the way.
Two goalie for each side saw time between the pipes. For Colby, Sam Burch made four stops in just under 32 minutes, before Sarah Evans finished with two saves. On the Nor'easters end,
Lauryn Huck posted seven saves in the opening frame, and
Courtney Kendall logged five after halftime.
The Mules are slated to visit No. 4 Tufts University on Saturday.
UNE heads to Massachusetts on Friday to face Bridgewater State University, with adjustments from the original schedule. The game location has been moved to Wheaton College in Norton, and will start at 3:30 p.m.
