Hannah Warren scored all five of her goals as part of a 9-1 stretch that turned around an early three-goal deficit, helping send the University of New England to a 15-12 victory over Saint Joseph's College (Maine) in the non-conference women's lacrosse opener Sunday afternoon (Mar. 1) at the Big Blue Turf.
The Nor'easters (1-0) trailed 5-2 with just over 10 minutes to play in the 1st half, but had things back level by intermission at 6-all. When Warren tallied her final marker with 19:37 remaining in the 2nd period, Big Blue stood on top of an 11-6 contest.
The Monks (0-1) pulled within three (12-9) inside the last 10 minutes, but UNE senior attack
Gina Newsome registered the next two scores to restore the five-goal cushion.

Brooke Kelleher accounted for the rest of the scoring for the Nor'easters.

Rachel Schwaner corralled eight draw controls to support the winning cause. Sophomore defender
Kasey Rubenstein had a team-high five ground balls and racked up six caused turnovers. First-year defender
Jolena Lampron notched four caused turnovers of her own, and junior goalkeeper
Lauryn Huck posted eight saves.
Saint Joseph's received three goals apiece from junior Elizabeth Elcock and first-year Elyse Caiazzo; Elcock recorded each of her scores over the initial 17 minutes as the Monks established the early advantage. Sophomore Jackie Wilson finished the day with two goals and an assist, along with five draw controls and five ground balls. Classmate Kelsey Dumond also had two markers, and juniors Mary Leasure and Kat Gadbois rounded out the scoring. Leasure contributed three assists, as well.
Monks junior goalie Michelle Cunha made eight stops -- five following halftime, as UNE out-shot its opponent by a 16-9 margin in the closing 30 minutes. The visitors had a 16-15 edge during the 1st stanza.
The Nor'easters have now won all three meetings between the teams.
Big Blue returns to the field on Wednesday (5 p.m.), playing host to No. 15 Bowdoin College. SJC is back in action Thursday (3:30 p.m.), entertaining Husson University in Portland.
