WORCESTER, Mass. -- Mary Wirth scored with 0:08 remaining in regulation to help the University of New England rally and earn a 2-2 tie with the College of the Holy Cross in an ECAC Women's East ice hockey game played Friday evening (Feb. 6) at the Hart Center.

Trailing 2-1 after Mary Klimasewiski gave the Crusaders (12-5-3, 8-2-2 ECAC Women's East) the lead with 2:31 left in the third, the Nor'easters (4-11-5, 1-8-3) pulled goaltender Sydney Helmbrecht in favor of an extra skater before Wirth slid a shot under the right pad of Holy Cross goalie Alexandra Stevenson. Emily Corrales and Shannon Smith were credited with assists on the game-tying goal.

Klimasewiski provided the Crusaders with a 1-0 advantage at 8:39 of the first, scoring on the power play off assists from Taylor McGee and Kara Violette.

UNE would tie the score at 1-1 late in the second when Smith recovered a UNE shot that was blocked and connected on a wrister for her team-leading 11th goal of the season. Her unassisted marker came at 18:29 of the frame.

The Crusaders outshot Big Blue 4-1 in overtime but were unable to take advantage of that margin.

Helmbrecht stopped 34 of the 36 shots she faced, while Stevenson made nine saves for Holy Cross.

The Nor'easters have less than 24 hours of rest before they face Saint Anslem College tomorrow at 3 p.m.
