Rossetti, Drost lead Nor'easters over Huskies

Box Score

GORHAM, Maine -- Christian Rossetti scored in the second period to provide the offense, and Colby Drost recorded 25 saves as the University of New England blanked the University of Southern Maine, 1-0, in an ECAC Men's East ice hockey game played Tuesday evening (Feb. 3) at the USM Ice Arena.

The win was the fourth in the last six outings for the Nor'easters, who improved to 8-11-1 overall and 6-7-1 in league play. The Huskies dropped to 5-15-0, 2-11-0 in ECAC East action. The shutout was the second of the season for UNE versus Southern Maine, with Blue Blue taking an 8-0 decision at home on Nov. 21.

Rossetti would notch the lone marker of the contest at 15:51 of the middle period when he collected a USM turnover near the blue line and skated in to beat Husky goaltender Kyle Shapiro.

Drost had played a strong first period between the pipes for UNE, keeping Southern Maine off the scoreboard despite the Nor'easters being outshot by a 12-7 margin. He was also solid in the final two minutes after the Huskies held pulled Shapiro for an extra skater. Drost stopped a blast through a screen by Stephen Gallo with less than 20 seconds remaining to help preserve his third shutout of the season, with two of those coming against USM.

The Nor'easters displayed impressive discipline, staying out of the penalty box the entire evening to help play a key role in the victory.

Shapiro finished with 23 stops for the Huskies, who held a slight 25-24 advantage in shots on goal.

Currently in fourth place in the league standings and positioned for a first-round home playoff game, the Nor'easters will host a crucial weekend series versus a pair of nationally-ranked opponents. UNE takes on Babson College Friday (7 p.m.) and UMass Boston Saturday (4 p.m.).
