Box ScoreHENNIKER, N.H. -- James O'Reilly notched the lone goal of the contest, and Sebastian Andersson turned aside 30 shots to provide New England College with a 1-0 shutout of the University of New England in an ECAC Men's East ice hockey game played Friday night (Feb. 13) at Lee Clement Arena.
The win was a key one for the Pilgrims (9-11-4, 6-9-2 ECAC East), who came into the evening two points behind the Nor'easters. The setback places UNE (8-13-2, 6-9-2) into a three-way tie for the fifth spot in the league standings.
After a scoreless first period, O'Reilly scored on the power play at 1:47 of the middle frame, stuffing home a rebound off a saved shot. Joe Osaka and Kyle Manlow assisted on the play.
The Nor'easters were unable to draw even the rest of the way. UNE held a slight 31-30 advantage in shots on goal but were 0-for-6 on the power play. The Pilgrims were whistled for 10Â infractions totaling 42Â penalty minutes, but Big Blue was unable to take advantage of a pair of five-minute extra-man advantages.
Colby Drost registered 30 saves for the Nor'easters, who conclude their regular season tomorrow with a 4 p.m. road game at Saint Anselm College. UNE will need a victory in that tilt to remain in contention for a first-round home playoff game when the ECAC Men's East Championship gets underway next Saturday (Feb. 21).
