ResultsNEW LONDON, N.H. -- The University of New England women's swimming team totaled 506 points to claim the four-team Colby-Sawyer College Invitational on Saturday afternoon (Dec. 5) at the Knight Natatorium. The host Chargers took second (295), with Gordon College (268) and Western New England University (205) rounding out the field.
Big Blue received three wins apiece from
Rachael Romain and
Lindsey Thomsen, with two more each from
Andrea Rybicki and
Kayla Burgess. The Nor'easters also captured both relay events.
Only Meghan Mamlock of Colby-Sawyer (200-freestyle) and Nicole St. Martin of Gordon (500-freestyle) managed to keep UNE from a clean sweep of the 14 races.
After Rybicki, Thomsen, Burgess, and
Eleni Bautz started things off in the 200 medley relay, Romain kept the momentum going by clocking 5:09.15 to take the 400-individual medley. It happened to be the closest touch of the day, as Burgess was just 0.05 seconds behind.
Romain also won the 200-breaststroke (2:38.64) and 200-individual medley (2:23.67), while Burgess added victories in the
100-butterfly (1:02.65) and 200-butterfly (2:22.30).
Thomsen was quickest in the 50-freestyle (24.99) by nearly one second, not long after claiming the 100-breaststroke (1:09.80). Her time in the 100-freestyle (56.42) barely edged Elaine Miller of Colby-Sawyer (+0.18), with Bautz not far off the pace (+0.56).
Rybicki secured first-place in the 100-backstroke (1:08.40) and 200-backstroke (2:28.35) events.
Emily Chamberlain, Bautz, Burgess, and Thomsen capped the afternoon with a win in the 400-freestyle relay.
UNE has over a month off before returning to action on January 12 at home against Gordon.
