Box ScoreBIDDEFORD, Maine -- Lisa Kilroy scored an unassisted goal at 8:10 of the third period to give the Castleton University Spartans a 2-1 victory over the University of New England Nor'easters in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) game Saturday (Nov. 7) at the Harold Alfond Forum.
The victory improves the Spartans' record to 4-0 overall and 2-0 in NEHC play, while the Nor'easters are 0-2 in all games, as well as conference action.
With the score tied at 1-1, Kilroy collected a loose puck in the UNE defensive zone and fired a wrist shot just under the crossbar to provide Castleton with the winning margin.
Trailing 1-0 late in the second, the Nor'easters had tied the game when
Kimberly Gosselin slipped a shot just inside the near post from the left circle.
Taylor Fowler assisted on the play.
Castleton converted a power-play opportunity at 7:29 of the second frame to open the scoring. Taylor Steadman cleaned up a rebound of a shot by Aimee Briand for her fourth marker of the young season.
Jess Cameron had a total of 35 saves for the Spartans, including a nifty stop of a shot by
Annie Mullen at the 13-minute mark of the third to preserve the Spartans' one-goal lead.
Sydney Helmbrecht finished with 36 saves for UNE, which returns to action next Friday at Plymouth State University.
Castleton will look to extend its unbeaten streak that same day with a home game versus Franklin Pierce University.
