BIDDEFORD, Maine -- Kevin Salvucci scored with 2:51 elapsed in overtime to give third-ranked Norwich University a hard-fought 1-0 victory over the University of New England in a New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) game played Saturday afternoon (Nov. 7) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

The Cadets remain unbeaten on the season at 3-0, 2-0 in NEHC play, while the Nor'easters suffered their first setback (1-1-1, 1-1-0 NEHC).

With a face-off coming in their defensive zone, the Nor'easters called a timeout. The Cadets would win the ensuing draw, and eventually Salvucci worked his way in front from behind the cage on the right side before directing a shot just inside the left post. Tyler Piacentini and Nick Pichette helped set-up the goal.

The game was a defensive battle the entire afternoon, as both teams were aggressive with their forecheck and physical play. Cadet goalkeeper Ty Reichenbach had several big stops to keep the Nor'easters off the scoreboard -- one coming on a Nik Dotolo breakaway in the first, and another on a point-blank shot in the low slot by Jimmy Tich midway through the third. Reichenbach would finish with 27 stops.

Mason Riley had 28 saves for the Nor'easters. He came up with a nice stop of a bid by Salvucci 6:00 into the third period to keep the game scoreless at the time.

Both teams return to the ice next Friday with 7 p.m. NEHC games. Norwich hosts Saint Anselm College, while the Nor'easters make the short trip up the road to take on rival University of Southern Maine.
