Baker leads Franklin Pierce to 5-3 win over UNE

Box Score

RINDGE, N.H. -- Karsyn Baker score two goals and added an assist to power the Franklin Pierce University women's ice hockey team to a 5-3 New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) victory over the University of New England Saturday afternoon (Nov. 21) at Ritchie Ice Arena.

The Ravens improved their overall record to 6-2-0 while pushing their NEHC mark to 4-2-0. UNE dropped to 1-4-1 in all games, as well as conference play.

After a scoreless first period, Baker tallied twice in the opening 3:39 of the middle frame to put the Ravens on top for good. She jammed in her own rebound after breaking in, and her second tally also came on a rebound -- this time a shot by Colleen Doucette.

Franklin Pierce would get one more goal before the end of the period. Bryana Harron received a pass across the slot from Alex Brosma and one-timed the feed from the left doorstep.

The Ravens extended their lead to 4-0 at 3:15 of the third on a goal by Doucette, but Abby Kinens would get UNE into the scoring column a little more than two minutes later when she finished from the slot.

UNE's three-goal deficit was short-lived, however, as Michelle Holmes scored just 16 seconds later to push FPU's advantage back to four (5-1).

Kinens notched her second goal of the afternoon at 8:42, and Marissa Clifford-Biederman tallied with 28 seconds remaining to make the final score 5-3.

Franklin Pierce, which held a commanding 46-15 advantage in shots on goal, received 12 saves from Shannon O'Neill.

Sydney Helmbrecht had a season-high 41 stops for the Nor'easters, who travel to Salem, Mass. on Tuesday to face Salem State University. The puck is scheduled to drop at 7 p.m.
