Box Score

BRUNSWICK, Maine -- Eighth-ranked Wellesley College received goals from three different players on its way to a 3-0 shutout of the University of New England in second round play of the 2015 NCAA Division III Field Hockey Championship on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 14), in a match played on the campus of Bowdoin College.

The Blue (17-3) continue into the national quarterfinals on Sunday against the regional host Polar Bears, ranked No. 1 in the latest NFHCA Poll and the only remaining unbeaten squad in the country. To view the interactive bracket for the tournament, click HERE.

For a second straight year, the Nor'easters (17-7) conclude their season in the Round of 16.

Wellesley really started to apply pressure one-third of the way into the 1st half, and a third penalty corner in a span of 1:15 resulted in the opening score in the 15th minute. Ansissa Sridhar tracked down the ball just off the endline, then flicked towards the far post that Hannah Flesch managed to tap into the cage.

UNE held the deficit at one heading into halftime, in spite of getting out-shot 8-1 and out-cornered 11-1.

The Nor'easters registered their first of two shots on target just moments into the 2nd period, forcing Wellesley goalie Lucy Hurlock into a save. The Blue turned the action back the other way and continued to threaten before a breakaway chance for UNE rolled just wide.

A few minutes later (48th), however, Wellesley padded its cushion as Courtney Peterson intercepted a pass in the UNE end and found Sridhar near the left post for a backhanded shot into the net.

The lead grew to 3-0 in the 52nd minute when Rachel Hwang inserted a corner to Peterson on left half of the circle for a lofted flip up over everyone crowding the middle.

Wellesley closed with sizable advantages in shots (18-4) and penalty corners (18-2). Holly Smith finished a busy day with nine saves defending the Nor'easters' frame, while Hurlock's two stops were good for her third shutout of the year.
