WATERVILLE, Maine -- University of New England head cross country coach
Ron Ouellette today (Oct. 4) was inducted into the Maine Sports Legends Hall of Honor. The induction ceremony took place at the Alfond Youth Center Boys and Girls Club in Waterville.
Ouellette has been the Nor'easters' head cross country coach since 2000, leading both the men's and women's programs to unprecedented success during that time. The women's team has won three consecutive Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) championships and is off to the best start in program history with three first-places finishes in three events. In 2014, Big Blue finished runner-up (out of 48 teams) at the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) New England Championship and ninth (out of 57) at the NCAA III New England Regional.
Ouellette has won CCC Coach of the Year honors six times during his career, including four consecutive times on the women's side.
In addition to his duties at UNE, Ouellette has coached indoor and outdoor track at Biddeford High School since 1975, and his teams have won numerous conference, regional and state titles..
Ouellette joins current UNE head volleyball coach
Karol L'Heureux in the Maine Sports Legends Hall of Honor. Other former UNE coaches enshrined include Jim Beaudry, Ron Cote and Art Descoteaux.
