Nor'easters earn 159-97 victory over Corsairs

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. -- Lindsey Thomsen recorded three individual victories to help lead the University of New England past the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a 159-97 score on Saturday afternoon (Oct. 31) in women's swimming action at the Tripp Athletic Center Natatorium.

Thomsen powered the Nor'easters (2-0) with top finishes in the 50-yard breaststroke (33.21), 100-yard breaststroke (1:13.70), and 50-yard butterfly (28.65). Thomsen also teamed up with Andrea Rybicki, Kayla Burgess, and Eleni Bautz to win the 200-yard medley relay.

Burgess had a solid outing of her own, tallying two individual wins in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:12.26) as well as the 100-yard butterfly (1:04.97). In the fly, she narrowly (0.12) edged Kaya Flanagan of UMass Dartmouth, who also won a pair of events on the day for the hosts.

Rybicki also captured a close race in the 50-yard backstroke (32.20), as she finished just 0.58 of a second ahead of Sydney Rogers of UMD. Bautz also came away with a win of her own in the 50-yard freestyle (26.94).

UMass Dartmouth was paced by Chrissy Deveaux who took first place in three events, which included out-touching Bautz in the 100-yard freestyle (by 0.51) and UNE's Emily Chamberlain in the 500-yard freestyle (by 1.03).

Britni Harris, Chamberlain, Rybicki, and Bautz capped the meet with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay.

Big Blue will hit the road again next Saturday (Nov. 7) when they take on Mount Holyoke College at 1 p.m.
