UNE concludes year at New England Championship

BREWSTER, Mass. -- The University of New England men's golf team wrapped up its 2015 season on Monday (Oct. 26), with Round 2 of the New England Intercollegiate Golf Association (NEIGA) Championship at The Captains Course (Starboard Course). The Nor'easters had a 36-hole total of 649 to end up in 16th place out of 22 squads.

Rhode Island College overcame a two-stroke deficit heading into the day to win with a score of 618 (307-311). Salem State University (320-304) and Babson College (305-319) shared the runner-up spot at 624, with Nichols College (626), the University of Southern Maine (629), Saint Joseph's College of Maine (629) rounding out the top five and ties.

RIC's Jonathan Cooper landed at the top of the leaderboard individually, backing up a 73 from Sunday with a 74. Cooper's score of 147 edged Dalton Wickendon of Husson (148) and overnight front-runner Zachary Temple of Castleton University (149).

Paul Butkevich finished the event in a tie for 7th individually out of the 110 competing players, booking a score of 153 (73-80). Sam Kinasewich (159) led Big Blue on the day with a six-over 78. After Ryan Mahoney (162) tossed in an 82, Garrett Krisko (178) closed out UNE's team total with an 85. Mike Rich carded 180 during the tournament.
