Nor'easters storm past Nichols to go 9-1 in CCC

DUDLEY, Mass. -- Haley Pelletier scored a goal in each half to help lead the University of New England field hockey team to a 5-0 Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) victory over Nichols College on Friday evening (Oct. 23) at Vendetti Field.

Nicole Matarozzo added a goal and two assists for the Nor'easters (12-5, 9-1 CCC), who have now captured the last seven contests against the Bison (1-15, 0-10 CCC).

UNE finished the night with a 43-3 advantage in shot attempts, and broke through on the eleventh try in 19th minute on a marker by Desirae LeBlanc. Seven minutes later, Pelletier doubled the cushion, tapping one in at the left post off a hit by Brooke Marshall.

Matarozzo in the 40th minute made it 3-0, before then setting up Pelletier (42nd minute) and Brenna Sicard (52nd minute) to round out the scoring.

The shutout was the third of the season for Holly Smith, as she turned away all three Nichols shots that came her direction.

The Bison received 10 saves from starter goalie Katherine Cotton, seven from reserve Ariana Beauregard, and a combined seven defensive saves by Haley Fountain and Brooke Marion.

Big Blue is next slated to visit No. 13 Babson College on Sunday (12 p.m.).
