ResultsGORHAM, Maine -- The University of New England men's golf team finished 2nd out of four squads on Friday (Oct. 2) at the University of Southern Maine Cup, a modified-format event played at Gorham Country Club. Saint Joseph's College scored 219 to edge the Nor'easters by two strokes (221).
The win for the Monks ended the four-year reign of the hosts, who totaled 225, and the University of Maine Farmington rounded out the field at 240.
The annual event provides a break from the traditional style of collegiate golf, pairing teammates for an 18-hole round that consists of three sections -- six holes in the format of best ball, six holes of scramble, and six holes of alternate shot.
Sam Kinasewich and
Troy Eaton teamed up to shoot an even-par 71 to pace UNE.
Paul Butkevich and
Mike Rich came in with 74, while
Ryan Mahoney and
Garrett Krisko logged a 76 to close out the team mark.
The SJC pair of Mike Caron and Cam Letourneau fired the low round of the day at 68.
The Nor'easters return to action on Tuesday (9:30 a.m.) for the qualifying round of the Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) Championship at the Country Club of Halifax in Massachusetts.
