Sam Kinasewich, the University of New England men's golf team fired the low team score of Monday's (Oct. 12) Round 2 at the University of Southern Maine Fall Classic to wind up in third place out of the seven competing institutions. The Nor'easters (631) closed with 305 on the second day.
Saint Joseph's College (602) won yet another tournament in 2015, backing up its 295 from Sunday with 307 to top the host Huskies (618) who had been within four strokes of the overnight lead. After UNE, Nichols College used a Monday 307 to move into a share of fourth (639) with the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth, which fell back with 323 in the second round.
Mike Caron of SJC ended three strokes clear of the next closest golfer to claim the individual title. His 36-hole total of 144 came with scores of 69 and 75.
Kinasewich (152) tied for sixth place overall after his career-best 18-hole effort on day two -- one of three rounds at even-par or better in the last 18 years of the program. Helping to the 305 team mark was
Paul Butkevich (156) with 75,
Mike Rich (169) with 79, and
Garrett Krisko (163) with 80.
Troy Eaton contributed to the opening round and finished at 171.
The Nor'easters will now have two weeks off before concluding their season at the New England (NEIGA) Championship on October 24-25 at the Captains Course in Brewster, Massachusetts.
