Box Score

BIDDEFORD, Maine -- The University of New England and Sacred Heart University each scored goals on either side of the 1st intermission and played even the rest of the way for a 1-1 overtime tie in women's ice hockey action Friday afternoon (Jan. 9) at the Harold Alfond Forum.

Big Blue (3-7-2) and the Pioneers (5-7-1) will square off again on Saturday (1 p.m.).

The Nor'easters got on the board late in the opening period (18:12), when sophomore Melissa Boudreau put a shot from the left dot past the SHU goalie. The power play goal was started by junior Marissa Clifford-Biederman with the face-off win, and assisted by sophomore Gabriella Moscato.

Sacred Heart found the equalizer just 31 seconds into the middle frame, as forechecking by senior Casey Stathopoulos caused a defensive-zone turnover and the captain flipped her second touch on the puck inside the right post.

UNE finished with a 36-32 edge in shots during the contest, with Big Blue junior Samantha Scobee posting 31 saves and Pioneers junior netminder Amanda Fontaine recording 35 stops.
