Nor'easters host UNE Invitational, finish 3rd

KENNEBUNKPORT, Maine -- Senior Jared Melman turned in a round of 74 to pace the University of New England to a 3rd-place showing at the UNE Invitational on Tuesday (Sep. 30) at Cape Arundel Golf Club. For the fifth time in six years, Endicott College captured the team title.

The Gulls totaled an impressive 292 behind a 70 from Alex Viola (followed by a 72, 74, and 76). The University of Southern Maine took second at 300, and the Nor'easters finished at 307.

Maine Maritime Academy (311), Saint Joseph's College (323), and UMaine Farmington (365) rounded out the six-team field.

After Melman, UNE received a score of 76 from sophomore Evan Ryan, and a 77 from junior Paul Butkevich. Sophomores Ryan Mahoney (80) and Sam Kinasewich (81) completed the lineup for Big Blue.

Viola and Mike Caron of SJC shared the low round of the day at 1-over-par (70), with Caron earning medalist honors from a tiebreaker.

The Nor'easters head to Augusta Country Club on Thursday for the Maine Maritime Invitational.
